Tolls and Rest Areas: What's New On Morocco's Highways
Morocco’s National Highway Company is preparing the deployment of renewable energies across its entire network. A comprehensive strategic study has been launched to decarbonize its infrastructure, in line with the country’s climate objectives.
The company intends to reduce the energy footprint of its facilities distributed throughout the territory. Toll gates, operating buildings and lighting consume significant resources. To initiate this project, a first analysis phase will target twelve pilot sites, namely six toll booths and six service areas. The objective is to precisely measure consumption histories and draw inspiration from international best practices.

The program will then evaluate clean energy production capacities, focusing primarily on solar power. These models will integrate the continuous increase in road traffic as well as the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles. This ecological shift is part of a broader modernization plan, supported by the European Investment Bank which recently approved a 300 million euro loan to prepare the network for major sporting events in 2030.

The outcome of this approach will result in an operational roadmap. This document will set a precise investment schedule for the short, medium and long term. It will designate priority sites for equipment based on their profitability and technical feasibility.
