A Cargo for Elbit (Israel) Seized from a Ship Bound for Tanger Med
A shipment of equipment destined for Elbit Systems Land was intercepted in Malaysia, according to the BDS movement. It was aboard the Berlin Maersk, a container ship scheduled to call at Tanger Med at the end of August.
The affair began at Malaysia’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas. According to the Palestinian National Committee of the BDS movement, information provided by BDS Malaysia, Progressive International and the No Ports for Genocide campaign led the authorities to inspect a shipment aboard the Berlin Maersk.

The inspection reportedly uncovered specialized equipment destined for Elbit Systems Land, a subsidiary of the Israeli group Elbit Systems. The shipment was then supposed to transit “through Morocco or Egypt” before reaching the Israeli port of Ashdod.
This latter detail nevertheless calls for caution: there is nothing to establish that the goods necessarily had to be transshipped at Tanger Med.
One element, however, can be independently verified. The official schedule of the Port of Tanjung Pelepas does indeed confirm the Berlin Maersk’s passage through Malaysia at the beginning of August.
The Berlin Maersk expected in Morocco
The connection with Tanger Med comes from the ship’s itinerary. According to the maritime schedule, the Berlin Maersk is due to arrive at the Moroccan port on August 30 before departing again on September 3.
If the seizure announced in Malaysia is confirmed, the shipment concerned will obviously no longer be aboard when it reaches Morocco. But the affair revives the question of the role of major transshipment ports in the logistics chains supplying Israel’s military industry.
The issue is all the more sensitive because Tanger Med has already been mentioned in controversies involving Maersk ships suspected of transporting military equipment intended for Israel. In a report presented in 2025 to the UN Human Rights Council, Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese also cited Maersk among the companies involved in transporting components entering Israeli military supply chains.

This time, the accusation goes beyond simple ship tracking: the BDS movement claims that a physical inspection in Malaysia made it possible to identify a shipment directly intended for Elbit. It now remains for the Malaysian authorities to officially confirm the exact nature of the equipment seized and the route intended for it.
