Even €3,000 net is no longer enough to guarantee a Moroccan student in Belgium
Guaranteeing a Moroccan student in Belgium is becoming a major financial undertaking. For the 2026-2027 academic year, one person will have to prove net monthly income of at least €3,235.88 for their undertaking to be accepted.
This guarantee, known as a “commitment to provide financial support” or Annex 32, allows a foreign student to demonstrate that they will have sufficient resources during their studies in Belgium.

The calculation is strict. The guarantor must first have at least €2,173.88 in net monthly income for their own needs. Added to this amount is the €1,062 per month that Belgium now requires for the student.
Total: €3,235.88 net per month for a single student.
Impossible to add the salaries of two relatives
The rule can seriously complicate the applications of some Moroccan families. Two people cannot act as joint guarantors to reach the minimum income.
A father earning €2,000 and a mother receiving €1,500 therefore cannot add their incomes together to exceed the threshold. The Belgian authorities even specify that the guarantor’s spouse’s income is not taken into account when assessing their solvency.
The Belgian Immigration Office requires the guarantor to personally have regular and sufficient resources. Certain social benefits, including family allowances and unemployment benefits, are also excluded from the calculation.
The guarantor may be Belgian, a citizen of the European Union, or a foreign national holding unlimited residence rights in the EU. A family member of the student up to the third degree may also fulfill this role, meaning that a parent, grandparent, brother, sister, uncle or aunt in Morocco may act as guarantor if they meet the requirements.
The income must be proven. For an employee, the authorities may in particular request several payslips, as well as the employment contract or a certificate from the employer.
The €3,235.88 threshold is not an amount to be paid to Belgium. It represents the minimum monthly income that the guarantor must demonstrate for their undertaking to serve as proof of the student’s means of subsistence.

For families who do not have a relative reaching this income level, other means of demonstrating resources remain possible, notably a scholarship or the deposit of subsistence funds into a blocked account.
