GNV leaves MREs with a choice: 46 hours without full air conditioning or wait a week
Hundreds of passengers traveling to Nador waited for several hours in scorching heat at the port of Sète, before learning that part of their GNV ferry’s air conditioning was out of order. To leave anyway, some say they had to sign a waiver.
Most of the travelers had arrived before noon on Wednesday, August 12, for check-in scheduled at 2 p.m. and departure at 6 p.m. Many had already driven all night from various regions of France, and even from Switzerland, Midi Libre reports.

In the parking lot, the temperature exceeded 30 °C and reached more than 40 °C inside some vehicles. Some motorists left their engines running to keep the air conditioning on. One passenger, whose wife is diabetic and suffers from heart failure, denounces the lack of assistance and even bottles of water during the wait.
A waiver before boarding
The situation became even more tense when the travelers learned that the Majestic, the GNV ferry carrying them to Nador with a stopover in Barcelona, would have only partial air conditioning.
According to the testimony of a passenger interviewed by Midi Libre, the choice offered was particularly difficult: accept the crossing under those conditions by signing a waiver, or postpone the trip for a week. The crossing was announced as lasting 46 h 30.

The departure was initially scheduled for 6 p.m. Passengers began boarding at that time, but the Majestic ultimately left Sète shortly after 9 p.m. After spending hours in the scorching heat in the parking lot, they were therefore embarking on nearly two days of travel to Nador with air conditioning announced as partially defective.
