Nador West Med is not yet open, but Motril is already investing to capture Moroccan goods
Even before its opening, Nador West Med is prompting new investments on the Spanish shore. The port of Motril has just authorized the construction of a customs warehouse intended in particular for Moroccan perishable products shipped to Europe.
The Port Authority of Motril has granted Med África Logistic a long-term concession to build and operate this warehouse in its logistics activity zone. The project will occupy a total of 5,278 square meters, reports El Estrecho Digital.
The port’s president, José García Fuentes, directly links this investment to the upcoming commissioning of Nador West Med. Motril’s position facing the new infrastructure in northern Morocco should make it possible to establish maritime and land connections to transport Moroccan goods to European markets.

This decision comes as Spanish ports adapt their facilities to Morocco’s growing importance. Algeciras has notably unblocked 20 million euros to strengthen one of its main quays.
A warehouse specially designed for perishable products
The warehouse will be primarily dedicated to perishable goods and cargo requiring controlled temperatures. Two independent areas will be developed to separate import and export flows.
Each area will have two loading docks, as well as spaces reserved for health inspections and customs checks. Refrigerated rooms, freezing facilities and dry-storage areas are also planned.
Of the 5,278 square meters allocated, 3,261 will directly accommodate the building. The remaining 2,017 square meters will be developed by the company before being allocated to public infrastructure and common areas of the logistics zone.
Med África Logistic, founded in 2014, operates in road and maritime transport, courier services and customs management. Its future Motril site will integrate into its Western Mediterranean network and will be able to receive, store, inspect and then re-dispatch cargo.

For Motril, the goal is to become one of the European gateways for products coming from Moroccan production centers. Nador West Med thus appears both as a competitor to Spanish ports and as a new generator of flows that they are already seeking to capture.
