Those Algerian Numbers Guiding Migrants to Sebta

WhatsApp groups administered from Algerian numbers allegedly shared routes, schedules and meeting points ahead of the mass arrivals of July 30 and 31 in Ceuta. A Spanish report refers to a digital campaign that generated more than 11 million potential impacts.

Calls to join Ceuta were not limited to a few videos that went viral. For several weeks, precise information allegedly circulated on social media to help those planning to leave reach the border and the Tarajal area.

The messages indicated which transport to take, the preferred times, the gathering places and the routes allowing people to get closer to the Spanish enclave. Updates were also circulated depending on the situation on the ground and the presence of security forces.

These details appear in a report produced by Chema Gil, a Spanish analyst specializing in security, intelligence and international terrorism. The study, consulted by La Razón, analyzes content published between June and August 1, 2026, on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X and WhatsApp.

Investigators claim to have identified several WhatsApp groups administered from numbers using the international prefix +213, assigned to Algeria. These groups allegedly served to share practical information for reaching the area around the Tarajal breakwater.

The report nevertheless does not demonstrate any involvement by the Algerian state. Nor does it attribute the campaign to a single organization. The telephone prefix only makes it possible to identify the numbers used to administer certain groups, without establishing with certainty who controlled them.

Accounts active in several countries

Particularly active profiles were also identified in Morocco, Tunisia and France. Activities originating in the United States are also mentioned. Some accounts produced the videos, while others reposted them on several platforms and messaging groups.

This decentralized organization allegedly allowed the mobilization to continue despite the removal of some posts. The content gradually shifted from general messages about emigration to concrete instructions on travel, gathering places and crossing the border.

According to the study’s authors, the campaign allegedly generated more than eleven million potential impacts. This figure does not represent eleven million different people. It notably adds together video views, group members, comments, posts and recorded interactions.

Activity allegedly increased sharply at the beginning of July, after the publication of a decision by the Spanish Supreme Court concerning people arriving in Ceuta by sea. It reportedly reached its highest level in the days preceding the Throne Day.

For the report’s authors, the mass arrivals of July 30 and 31 therefore cannot be explained solely by what happened at the border. Well before the first groups arrived, part of the journey to Ceuta was already being prepared on phones.
