Tourism data: a "strategic" reform to align Morocco with global standards

Tourism data: a "strategic" reform to align Morocco with global standards

This new system is based on a representative sampling methodology. It incorporates precise criteria such as the type of accommodation, the destination or the seasonality. According to the ministry, this approach, which aligns with the standards of major global destinations, allows for a more comprehensive measurement of activity, with the results also being confirmed by cross-checks with other field data.

For the Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, this evolution goes beyond the simple technical framework to become a "strategic act". It is directly in line with the 2023-2026 roadmap, which makes governance a priority. This system should pave the way for higher quality analyzes and broaden the scope of action for public and private actors.

An interactive dashboard for a "data culture"

This modernization is accompanied by the launch of a new website for the Tourism Observatory. Developed with the support of the UN Tourism and the EBRD, it incorporates an interactive dashboard providing updated indicators to facilitate comparison and interpretation of the figures.

The president of the National Confederation of Tourism, Hamid Bentahar, expressed his desire to establish a true "data culture". The objective is to transform this information into a competitive advantage for the ecosystem, to strengthen skills and to support the sustainable development of Moroccan destinations.
