A New Israeli Missile Tested in Morocco with the U.S. Army
A new long-range cruise missile was tested in Morocco during an exercise involving Moroccan and American military personnel. Named Anthem, the weapon is being developed by Covenant with the aim of offering a less expensive alternative to traditional heavy cruise missiles.
According to N12/Mako, Anthem was successfully test-fired in southern Morocco as part of the initial trials related to the future multidomain military center jointly developed by Rabat and Washington.

The test was not limited to the launch. The teams also evaluated the missile’s communications, mobility, wings and launch system. Covenant engineers took part in the operations alongside Moroccan and American military personnel.
The exact range of Anthem remains confidential. Its main selling point is economic: to offer a long-range missile that is cheaper and easier to mass-produce than current heavy systems. Germany has already shown interest in this new generation of weapons as it seeks less costly strike capabilities.
Morocco Becomes a Testing Ground
Beyond the missile itself, the trial primarily confirms Morocco’s growing role in American military projects in Africa.
On July 13, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and the U.S. Africa Command signed a memorandum to create the “Africa Multidomain Training and Experimentation Center” (AMTEC) in Tan-Tan. AFRICOM states that the complex is to be developed by 2030 around multidomain training, drones and the testing of new technologies.
Washington wants to enable Moroccan and American defense companies to test autonomous systems, advanced communications and equipment using artificial intelligence there. African Lion 2027 is intended to serve as the concept’s first full-scale demonstration.
The process is already under way. During African Lion 2026, more than 30 American companies tested technologies in Morocco related in particular to autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, counter-drone operations and intelligence.

With Anthem, Morocco is therefore no longer merely hosting major joint military exercises. It is also becoming a testing ground where new weapons systems are put through their paces before their possible deployment.
