The dirham strengthens against the euro
The Moroccan dirham gained ground this week against the two main currencies used by MREs. It appreciated by 0.2% against the euro and by 0.1% against the dollar between 6 and 12 August, according to the latest weekly indicators from Bank Al-Maghrib.

The reference exchange rate for the euro thus fell from 10.745 dirhams on 6 August to 10.727 dirhams on 12 August. For 1,000 euros, this represents, as an indication, approximately 18 dirhams less based on these reference rates. The dollar followed the same movement, falling from 9.310 to 9.295 dirhams.

Reserves exceed 500 billion dirhams
Morocco’s official reserve assets reached 500.7 billion dirhams on 7 August, up 0.5% in one week and 22.6% year-on-year.

This increase comes as transfers from MREs reached 61.5 billion dirhams during the first six months of 2026, up 9.9%. Tourism revenues rose by 15.9% to 64.9 billion, while the trade deficit widened by 23.5% to 198.4 billion dirhams.
