Moroccan textile sector falters as exports soar
Moroccan textile and leather exports fell by 6.5% in the first half of 2026, while Morocco’s overall sales abroad continued to grow.
Between January and June, the sector exported 21.1 billion dirhams’ worth of goods, according to data included in Bank Al-Maghrib’s weekly indicators. The decline affected all textile and leather segments, although the document does not provide details on their respective performance.

Textiles buck the trend
This decline contrasts with the 9.7% growth in Moroccan exports, which reached 260.4 billion dirhams in the first half of the year.
Automotive exports rose by 17.4%, to 93.7 billion dirhams, while aerospace exports increased by 19.3%, to 17.3 billion. Agriculture and agrifood also grew by 5.7%, reaching 52.4 billion dirhams.

Textiles and leather are not the only sectors to have declined. Electronics and electrical goods exports fell by 4.4%, while exports of phosphates and derivatives decreased by 2.3%. The report does not specify the reasons for the decline recorded by the textile industry.
